EZConnect
Putting technology to work for you
What the experts are saying about business security features of EZConnect...
"The best thing that I have done is implement an integrated system that provides video surveillance, loss prevention, audio and sales date into one system. I can now run my business and still get to my daughter's school events without missing an issue."
- Jose Gonzales, Subway franchisee."We monitor systems using EZConnect and have caught employees which has resulted in franchisee actions that include counseling, terminations and many criminal prosecutions. This has a very positive impact throughout the store and franchise by putting the employees on notice that the systems are actively being used and the bottom line profit increases."
- Jeff Shockley, security consultant, Risk Management Associates, Inc., who says technology like the EZConnect system integrates many components making it easy to identify problems, review and properly react to situations."I never had the intention to put video in to watch store employees, but we have had to deal with issues, prosecute people and terminate people. EZConnect lets me find problems when they occur. This is one great tool that the system provides. With video at the counters and at the doors there's no doubt the employees feel safer, too."
- David Lambo, Subway franchisee with seven stores in the Tampa, Fla., area.
Detect, stop and help prevent employee theft
NEW YORK (Nov. 1, 2009) - Anyone who runs a small business knows that theft can put a serious dent in the bottom line.
Take, for example, a recent report of a Washington state resident who was accused of theft at a local SUBWAY restaurant where she worked. Police say the woman, suspected in the theft of about $25,000, admitted that she'd taken money from the "cash box" used to carry proceeds to the bank for deposit.
She also said she would hide her theft from store management by not ringing up sales at the SUBWAY cash register.
Nationwide, experts estimate employee theft costs retailers around $16 billion annually. "With the slowing economy, employees who need money are even more tempted to steal from a cash drawer or design more elaborate schemes for embezzlement or identity theft," said Leszek James, chief executive officer of New York-based EZUniverse, a leading provider of business computer systems that help detect employee theft. "Business owners need to give themselves an edge in preventing theft - and uncovering theft when it happens."
Mr. James said EZUniverse has systems specially designed for the hospitality and Quick Serve Restaurant industry that has halted theft at businesses across the country.
EZUniverse's EZConnect system provides all the tools needed to manage complicated business operations and provide high-tech surveillance, he said. With EZConnect, owners of businesses with multiple locations can keep track of all their locations with real-time data and video.
Mr. James said EZUniverse has launched two new products that also offer lower-cost options for business owners faced with the challenge of improving profits in this difficult economy.
EZUniverse's new QuickConnect system offers a low-cost business management solution with many of the sophisticated features of EZConnect, but taking advantage of an easier to use Web-based dashboard. QuickConnect allows business owners to detect theft - at the counter and in the back office - by flagging suspicious transactions and activities. The system is designed for businesses that don’Äôt need the video tools of EZConnect, but it does have the capability of expanding to include video surveillance options later.
EZUniverse has also launched EZConnect for Monitoring, which offers small businesses the ability to take advantage of sophisticated video surveillance, but at a lower cost and with greater flexibility of other security vendors. EZConnect for Monitoring allows businesses to expand existing surveillance or to fulfill short-term surveillance needs ’Äì such as during holidays, vacation periods or for special events.
"You don't have to be at the store to catch the thief in action," Mr. James said. "While it is impossible to eliminate theft, employees are far less likely to attempt it when they know they are being monitored and that they will be caught and prosecuted."
David Lambo, who owns seven SUBWAY stores in the Tampa, Fla., area, said EZConnect has helped him deal with the difficult issue of employee theft by combining sales data with surveillance video on an easy-to-use dashboard.
"I never had the intention to put video in to watch store employees, but we have had to deal with issues, prosecute people and terminate people. This is one great tool that the system provides," said Lambo, a SUBWAY franchisee for nearly 10 years. ’ÄúWith video at the counters, at the doors ... the employees feel safer, too."

James and Vice President of Sales and Customer Service Michael Starer were invited by Subway to attend the recent 2010 Subway Convention at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago. The convention gave the EZUniverse executives an opportunity to showcase the company's EZConnect system..
